Mamata takes out ‘condemnation march’ in Burdwan

Burdwan (WB), April 05: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today led a three kilometre ‘condemnation march’ over the killing of a party worker at Barul village in Burdwan district.

Banerjee, accompanied by party General Secretary Mukul Roy, met the wife and two sons of the victim, Rabin Kazi, at Barul village and consoled them after the march.

She later alleged to newsmen that the CPI(M)-led Left Front government had been using the mafia for terrorising industrial areas in the state.

Yesterday, the leader of an alleged coal mafia, Dinabandhu Barui ran over Kazi with his sports utility vehicle when he tried to save the Trinamool Congress candidate Prabhat Chatterjee, who was pulled out of his car and beaten up.

Kazi died on the way to hospital.

Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir said that eight persons have been arrested for the killing and that a dragnet had been laid for Barui.
