New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday dismissed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claims about the Malda violence not being a ‘communal incident’ and accused her of protecting her party goons involved in the smuggling of fake currency and drugs.
“It is utter lie that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is speaking that the Malda incident was a clash between the BSF and locals,” BJP leader Siddharthnath Singh told ANI.
” Mamata Banerjee is protecting her own criminals, who are involved in the smuggling of fake currency and drugs at Malda and Kaliachawk,” he added.
Singh further said that BJP president Amit Shah has constituted a three-member parliamentary committee of S.S. Ahluwalia, Bhupender Yadav and V.D. Ram to look into the Malda incident.
The BJP leader said that the committee members would be visiting the BSF camp and would also interact with the Hindu families to get to the bottom of the incident.
Violence broke out in Kaliachawk last week when some Muslim groups called a meeting to protest certain remarks allegedly made by a Hindu leader in Uttar Pradesh about the Prophet. The BSF vehicles were set on fire when the security forces tried to intervene.
Several vehicles on the national highway were set on fire by the angry protestors, who also attacked the Kaliachawk Police Station. (ANI)
