Kolkata:The 40th edition of Kolkata International book fair was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today.
Boliva is the theme country this year and Vietnam is guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Banerjee said there is no alternative to hard copy of books.
“My memories go back to my childhood when I see children carrying books and going to school, ” she said.
She welcomed the Bolivian writers and hoped the cultural interaction will help people of the two countries to know each other more deeply.
Banerjee launched several books, including 10 penned by her. A book on the achievements of her government in the last five years was also released.
The fair will remain open from January 26 to February 7.
