Hyderabad, February 26: In a better haul than last year, the State has bagged 28 new train services this time, seven more than the previous year. Further, seven new lines were sanctioned along with implementation of six projects under MMTS Phase-II and other capacity building projects. These projects worth Rs. 3,666 crore will be implemented over the next 5-7 years.
Giving relief to Hyderabadis, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee sanctioned approvals for the implementation of MMTS Phase-II project over the next two-three years. The project costing about Rs. 641 crore will be implemented with two-third funds contributed by the state government.
Apart from approvals for implementing six projects of 101 km length under MMTS Phase II, 10 additional MMTS services have been sanctioned. The number of compartments have been increased for about 83 sub-urban services in Secunderabad area from 6-car to 9-car services. Some of the major new train services are Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam AC Duronto (tri-weekly), Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi Express apart from eight Express, seven DEMU, one MEMU and one passenger trains. South Central Railway GM MS Jayanth said works for the establishment of a Wagon Workshop at Kazipet will commence this year and completed in 5 years.
