Kolkata, Oct.27 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday condemned the Delhi Police action at state-owned Kerala House in Delhi over beef served at its canteen and said that it was an unwise and unhealthy attempt to curb fundamental rights of the people.
“I strongly condemn what happened in Delhi at Kerala Bhavan. An unwise and unhealthy attempt to curb fundamental rights of people. Intolerance,” Banerjee tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Oomen Chandy-led government has dismissed claims that beef was served at the Kerala House in Delhi.
Chandy slammed the Delhi Police for barging into the Kerala House along with the Hindu Sena activists over charges of ‘beef’ being served, saying it was not some ‘private’ hotel but a government establishment where they had created a commotion.
“The Delhi Police should have shown restraint. It was not some local restaurant running for profit but an official guest house where they barged into. It’s a place where the Chief Minister and other important ministers and dignitaries stay. And even if some sort of complaint arises, there is a proper procedure before action is taken. Clearly, the Delhi Police is not under their government’s control, but under the Centre’s,” he said.(ANI)
