Mamata Banerjee meets senior BJP leaders in Delhi

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Delhi a day after meeting various opposition leaders to discuss prospects of forming a third front.

After meeting her, disgruntled BJP leaders Yashwant Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha appreciated her efforts to bring together all regional forces against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

The leaders, on more than one occasion, have expressed their displeasure with the Modi government’s decisions.

Soon following the meeting, Sinha lauded Mamata saying, “She is a good person and is saving the nation”. Similarly, Sharughan Sinha also hailed over the meet stating that, “Nation is always larger than the political party”.

Mamata also met Arun Shourie, a former Union minister in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, in a meeting where TMC MP Derek O’ Brien was also present.

After the meeting, Shourie said, “Control of the BJP is now moving from Narendra Modi to Amit Shah”.

Mamata, who is camping in Delhi for last two days, has held a crucial round of meetings with leaders from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). (ANI)
