Kolkata,June 13:West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who has given priority to health since taking over expressed unhappiness at the poor infrastructure in the sector, but directed improvement of services nonetheless.
“What they have done in the last 35 years? We don’t the have the money to give the salary of employees,” Banerjee, who also holds the Health portfolio, told a meeting of officials of the department, referring to the erstwhile Left Front government.
“We have a debt of Rs 2.03 lakh crore and it will take at least six to eight months to stabilise the entire system,” Banerjee said.
“Priorities will have to be listed within available infrastructure so that health delivery standards can be improved,” Banerjee, who has been making surprise visits to state-run hospitals, said.
“What has been done has been done. There is no point in looking back and accusing others. We must make a new beginning,” she said.
