The Tamil Nadu police arrested K. Sahul Hameed alias Paravai Basha, accused in the Mallaeswaram bomb blast case, on February 22. The Bangalore police hope to interrogate Basha and elicit more information on the blast which occurred a year ago.
Basha is said to have arranged the logistics and supplied explosives to those who executed the crime. The Bangalore police would get his custody in a few days.
The accused was arrested near Punalur in Kollam district in Kerala on February 22, by a team of CB-CID of Tamil Nadu. The team was investigating the case of planting of a pipe bomb to target senior BJP leader L K Advani in Tamil Nadu in 2011 in which Basha is said to be involved.
Basha was remanded to police custody by a local court in Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu on February 24. Mr. Pranab Mohanty, additional commissioner of police ( crime ), Bangalore, said that the Tamil Nadu police has confirmed Basha’s arrest. A decision is yet to be taken regarding sending a team to seek his custody at this point of time. Investigations are being done by the Tamil Nadu police at present. “Basha is not only one of the prime accused but was handling logistics as well. His custody is important to interrogate him and find out if there is involvement of others also in the conspiracy. We hope to learn the whereabouts of Aboobakkar Siddiqui, the key conspirator and three others who have still not been caught in the Malleswaram bomb blast case,” he further added.
Basha who was on the run for the last eight months was a resident of Melapalayam in Tirunelveli district. The police have seized 17.25 kg of explosives including 136 gel packs, 141 detonators, a pistol with 50 rounds of ammunition besides Rs 6 lakh in cash raised in the name of ‘Charitable Trust for Minorities’, from him.
