Malinga gets show-cause notice for joining Mumbai Indians without NOC

Colombo : Sri Lanka pace spearhead Lasith Malinga has been issued a show-cause notice by his country cricket board for participating in the ongoing Indian Premier League without a No Objection Certificate.

“Malinga has not informed Sri Lanka Cricket of his travel to India, nor his intention to play for the IPL,” the SLC said in a media release while adding that the player would be required to “present himself” before a panel of medical experts on Wednesday to obtain clearance from the board.

As per the conditions set by the SLC, Malinga must get clearance on his injury status by expert panel of Medical professionals as well as declared ‘Match Fit’ by physio, trainer, coach and selectors in order to attain the NOC.

The SLC said they would “take the next appropriate steps” depending on the outcome of his medical examinations.

The 32-year-old joined the Mumbai Indians squad on Friday after missing the first two matches of his IPL team due to fitness concerns. However, he is unlikely to be available for selection immediately as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

Malinga reportedly has had a strained relationship with the SLC after being asked to step down from captaincy of the team before the World T20 last month. However, he was ruled out of the T20 format’s pinnacle event after aggravating his injury in warm-up games. (ANI)
