Malik, Akmal help Pak seal victory against UAE

Mirpur: Fast bowler Mohammad Amir produced yet another brilliant spell before Pakistan batsmen showed a sizzling performance to help their side claim a seven-wicket win over UAE in the sixth Asia Cup clash here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

Chasing a target of 130, Pakistan recovered from a dreadful start losing three wickets with just 17 runs on the board.

It seemed a daunting task for the Shahid Afridi-led side before Shoaib Malik (63*) and Umar Akmal (50*) stitched an unbeaten 114-run partnership to chase down the target with eight balls to spare.

Amjad Javed was the pick of bowlers for UAE as he scalped three wickets for his side.

Earlier, opting to bat, Shaiman Anwar smashed 46 off just 42 balls before Muhammad Usman (21) and skipper Amjad Javed (27) shared a 46-run partnership to help UAE reach 129 runs in their allotted overs.

Amir, who bowled a terrific spell against India in the team’s opening encounter, continued his impressive form as he bowled 21 dot balls against the minnows.

Amir bagged two wickets for six and was well supported by Mohammad Irfan who also scalped two wickets.

Mohammad Sami and skipper Shahid Afridi also chipped in with a wicket each.

With the win, Pakistan have gained their first points while UAE still have to open their account in the five-team round-robin league championship.
