A significant number of Assamese security guards are deployed at malls, restaurants and software companies at Hyderabad. Rumours were rife that activists of some religious organisations were enquiring about Assamese living in different parts of the city; this has triggered fears among Assamese working in Hyderabad and they are reportedly forced to rush back to their native state. On an estimate around 10,000 Assamese live in Hyderabad.
According to the reports, worried over possible retaliatory attacks after recent violence in Assam targeting Muslims, many Assamese security guards have stopped turning up for duty. They say that the sitatuion here is not good; sources say. According to another source they quit the jobs at the instance of a local MLA from Assam who directed them to leave the jobs at once and return to the State.
An unconfirmed report of one person from Assam travelling in a train was beaten up by unidentified persons somewhere in Andhra Pradesh days after the violence broke out in Assam, has worried Assamese living in Hyderabad. Another rumour stating that Assamese guards were beaten up in Madhapur and Gachibowli areas by unidentified persons has also created panic among Assamese workers.
The reports seem to be nothing more than the rumours spread by some miscreants to create panic and trigger communal tension, since no such police complaint has been lodged so far.
