Malegaon: The Asaduddin Owaisi led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) made massive gains in Malegaon Municipal Corporation elections 2017.
Contesting the election for the first time by fielding 37 candidates in the Muslim-dominated city, the party opens its account in the civic body winning 07 seats in Malegaon.
However, another unexpected result is Abdul Malik Yunus Isa, the party’s local president and former mayor of Malegaon has lost the election from Ward no. 17.
The Congress fielded 54 candidates, BJP 58, Shiv Sena 26 and AIMIM 37. The BJP which fielded 27 Muslim candidates and most of them lost.
Out of the total 84 seats in Malegaon Municipal Corporation, Congress has won 28 seats, and NCP wins in 20 wards.
Shiv Sena and BJP have performed badly. Shiv Sena bagged 13 and BJP for the first time is facing a humiliating defeat and won a total of 09 seats, and others 7.
Congress emerged as the single largest party in Bhiwandi and Malegaon where as BJP got a clear mandate in Panvel.
