Mumbai, July 22: The issue of cow slaughter in Malegaon rocked the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today with the Opposition threatening to prevent smooth functioning of the proceedings till the accused were arrested.
The House witnessed five adjournments of ten, 15 minutes each, twice for 30 minutes and one for 20 minutes after the Question Hour. Shiv Sena legislator Dada Bhuse from Malegaon first raised the matter as soon as the House assembled for the day.
He said bodies of the dead cows were scattered in different parts of Malegaon city and nearby villages last night. Bhuse also informed that a spontaneous bandh has been observed in Malegaon to protest against the incidents. Home Minister R R Patil said that he would make a statement after the Question Hour. Later, he said bodies of eight cows were recovered from three different places.
Patil said that the post mortem report is awaited and the police have formed two teams to look out for the accused. However, the Opposition members were not satisfied with the reply and demanded strict action be taken against the guilty. Bhuse said two cows were recovered near a police chowkie and the police officials did not do anything. “The incident was reported to the police by local milkmen,” he said. .
