Malegaon blast case diluted: Congress on Sadhvi’s bail

New Delhi: Reacting to the High Court granting bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, the Congress on Tuesday said this case has been diluted and not taken seriously by the probe agencies.

“The manner in which this case has been diluted since 2014 and not taken seriously, it has come out in the open. When Rohini Salian was the public prosecutor, she had said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was putting a lot of pressure to dilute the records of the witnesses,” said Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi.

“This is a kind of betrayal to those families, who were expecting justice. Has the government acted upon the questions which were raised by Rohini Salian and has it taken it seriously,” she asked.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, nearly nine years after her arrest.

However, the plea by her co-accused — former Army officer Lt. Col. Prasad Shrikant Purohit — was rejected by the high court. Purohit had challenged a lower court’s rejection of his bail plea.
