Malegaon, March 26: A bandh called for the release of nine accused in connection with the Malegaon bomb blast of 2006 passed off peacefully today, police said.
Over 35 people were killed when three powerful bombs went off on September 8, 2006 in Malegaon.
The bandh in general, evoked a mixed response as the commercial markets, power-looms and shops in the eastern part of the city remained closed in response to the call given by the Nidharmi Rajakiya Vichar Manch.
Senior Janata Dal (Secure) leader and former MLA Nihal Ahmed said that ATS should release nine youths arrested after the 2006 bomb blast claiming they were “innocent”.
Swami Aseemanand, who was arrested by CBI, had said in his confessional statement that the 2006 blast was masterminded by Hindu group Abhinav Bharat.
