Male contraceptive pills come closer to reality

A new breakthrough by an Australian scientist could finally make a male contraceptive a reality.

Dr Sabatino Ventura, who aims to develop a pill that temporarily prevents sperm from leaving a man’s body, said that it will take at least 10 years to build the final product, News.com.au reported.

Till now, Ventura has managed to block sperm in mice, but only through a permanent genetic modification that leaves them without two specific proteins; his next step is to develop a chemical that achieves the same effect.

He said that there are two proteins that needs to be blocked pharmacologically in the same way as they have blocked them genetically in the mice.

The basic idea of the study is that the reproductive system will revert to normal once the medication is stopped. (ANI)
