Makkah masjid blast case: Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma seek bail

Hyderabad, November 04: The two accused in the 2007 Makkah Masjid blast case, Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma applied for bail in a local court.

The applicant Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma who are presently in judicial custody have filed a bail petition before 14 additional Chief metropolitan magistrate court through their counsel.

Gupta and Sharma are among the five persons who have been figured as accused in the chargesheet filed by the Rajasthan ATS in the 2007 Ajmer blast case.

It must be remembered that a blast had occurred inside the Makkah Masjid following the Friday prayers on May 18, 2007 which had claimed nine lives. Five people were killed in police firing after the blast.
CBI, which is probing the Makkah Masjid blast case, had registered a case on June 9, 2007 under various sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

In their petition, Gupta and Sharma informed the court that the CBI is yet to file the chargesheet, and they are in judicial custody since June 17 despite completion of the stipulated period of 90 days for filing the chargesheet.

Through their petition, the accused also told the court that they are innocent and have nothing to do with the offence and were falsely implicated in the case.

The court has directed CBI to file their counter affidavit by 8th of November.
