Making two worlds meet

Hyderabad, February 24: He is a cardiologist by profession and actor by heart. That’s Bharat Reddy, who after establishing a successful practise at the Apollo Hospital here is now making film viewers sit up and take note of his appearances on the silver screen.

The 33-year-old cardiologist has already acted in several Telugu films and has been lucky to have got cast along with some of the leading names. If he was with Kamal Hasan in ‘Eenadu’, now Dr. Bharat is there with Nagarjuna in the latest release ‘Gaganam’, which is getting good reviews and his role is being appreciated.

“My role in J.D. Chakravarthy’s ‘Siddham’ got noticed and got me an opportunity when the team of ‘Eenadu’ were looking for someone tall with a cop look,” he recalls. The other movies in which he acted include ‘Villagelo Vinayakudu’ and ‘Ragada’.

Dr. Bharat was bitten by the acting bug during schooling and took to the stage with plays. He went to Armenia to pursue medicine and on return, joined Apollo Hospital, all the while keeping alive his passion for acting.

“It was not easy. As a cardiologist, I am sought after but when I went around production houses, I had to hang around like all others,” he reminiscences. Working with established artists such as Kamal Hasan, Nagarjuna and Mohan Lal did help the talented actor in honing his skills.

“With good actors, one can learn so much by just watching them act,” he says.

Cop roles

Is he getting stereotyped with cop roles? “No, I have got characters that are different. In fact, I love to do comedy and also lead negatives,” Dr. Bharat reveals. Which does he find easier, dealing with hearts or facing camera? “Both demand immense concentration”.

Trained in martial art, the cardiologist also regularly practices kick boxing even now. Commercial Telugu cinema does call for over-exaggeration of expression, but Dr. Bharat is looking forward to ‘Chikatilo Nenu’, a film in which he could live the role the natural and instinctive way.
