Making Telangana Crime-Free State is Our Mission—new DGP

The new Director General of Police (DGP), M. Mahender Reddy declared here today that making Telangana a crime-free state and thus ensuring industrial growth and prosperity of the State is his top priority.

Reddy took over as DGP today from the out-going DGP Anurag Sharma.  Speaking to the media later, Mahender Reddy thanked the Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhara Rao for reposing faith in him and entrusting the duty to him.   He said the Chief Minister has given high importance to the Police department in the State and he was happy that Hyderabad Police stood in Number One position in the country. Maintenance of law and order is vital for state’s development and his priority is to make all the employees in the department understand their importance in making Telangana a crime-free state.

            The new DGP said all officials in the department – right from home guards to top level – would be given their due recognition in an effort to make Telangana a safe and secure state and improve the brand image of Hyderabad. CC TV   cameras in large number would be organized in the capital city.  Friendly policing would also be implemented more effectively. Due recognition would be given to the employees who show impressive performance in their duties, he said and recalled that the ‘Nenu Saitam’ project has given excellent results. .

Mahender Reddy further said that the Government is attaching utmost importance for safety of women.  The SHE teams have helped to curb the activities of unsocial elements in the city.   The SHE teams would be extended to the Districts also.  With the initiative of the State Government, 18,500 posts were filled in the police department.   He also said that technology would be made use of in maintaining law and order in the State.  Laboratories would be arranged in the Districts also to check cyber crimes.  He made it clear that deterrent action would be taken against those who indulged in sexual assaults on minor girls.

Stressing that community participation in curbing crime is very important, the DGP said the police personnel should mingle with the people to achieve the goal.   He assured that the problems of the Home Guards would be solved through discussions with the Government. (NSS)
