Making every morsel count: Hyderabadi youngsters serving food to those affected due to demonetisation

Hyderabad: A bunch of 30 youngsters have contributed money from their own pockets set up the food stall to eat free food for people affected by demonetisation.

The circle of friends set up the kitchen near pillar no. 47 of the PVNR Expressway, a few kilometres away from Mehdipatnam bus stop.

Syed Naseer, who owns a restaurant called ‘Food on Fire’ is the brain behind the soup kitchen. His brother Akram, and Gajendra, a friend and their team of volunteers feeding those affected with sudden demonetization.

“Few days back, two young labourers came to my restaurant asking for food. When I questioned them, I came to know that they don’t have money and have not eaten anything for the past two days. Then they said that because of demonetisation, they are now jobless as function halls in this area are not getting customers,” Syed was quoted as saying to the News Minute.

The menu consists of simple Hyderabadi food of Khatti dal, rice and buttermilk and serves more than 600 hungry from 2 pm till the time the food gets over.

“On Thursday, two well dressed people had our food. When asked they said, they have money but nobody is ready to give change for Rs.2000,” pointed out Akram, who is a manager at a function hall
They are generating donations in raw materials like rice, pulses or cooking oil through a Whatsapp group ‘Dildar Hyderabad’ for the good cause.

Though struggling to meet the requirements but still want to continue serving food.

“Today we have food, tomorrow also we will manage. But day after tomorrow, Allah will definitely show a way to continue with this cause,” said Syed.
