Puducherry: Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today asked residents and residents’ welfare associations in Puducherry to cooperate and function in tandem with official machinery to ensure that the Union Territory is garbage-free, clean and prosperous.
Talking to reporters at the end of her visit to a dumping yard in neighbouring Kurumbapet along with PWD Minister A Namassivayam and Social Welfare Minister M Kandasamy, she said the Prime Minister and the central government were willing to help the Union Territory achieve its goal of ‘Clean Puducherry’.
“The whole government machinery was already putting in colossal efforts and energy to make Puducherry clean and free from open air defecation,” she said.
Bedi said the government of Puducherry is totally determined to clean up the garbage and the people and the residents’ welfare associations should ensure that they contributed to the accomplishment of the task by the government.
“All officials of the PWD, local administration, municipality and other wings are already on their feet to solve the issue. But people’s cooperation should also be available to have a clean Union Territory. We should also ensure that Puducherry emerged number one in the country to have a clean and prosperous environment,” she said.
The elected ministry, the Lt Governor’s office, entire official machinery and the people should work together in this task, she stated.
Bedi, who assumed office on May 29, has been regularly visiting every Saturday and Sunday various pockets and joins hands with the municipal workers and volunteers to lift garbage as part of her mission to make Puducherry ‘prosperous and garbage free’.
