CPI national executive member Dr K. Narayana on Wednesday urged Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to transform Ekambarakuppam Railway Station in Nagari mandal of Chittoor district into a permanent Railway station by ordering pucca construction.
In a letter to the Railway Minister today, the CPI leader pointed out Nagari is border area of Tamil Nadu and a temporary railway station was constructed at Ekambarakuppam. “There are many handloom machines in Ekambara kuppam, Kothapeta and Thadukupeta. Highest number of handloom units was located in the area. Clothes and garments were being exported in large quantities. But the condition of Railway station is very poor in the busy area. There is no adequate space even for standing for the passengers. Moreover, it is very difficult to locate required compartment during nights. It does not look like a railway station but as a gutter”, he added. (NSS)
