Hyderabad, November 05: With only two days left for the closure of nominations for the civic polls in the state capital, the ruling Congress, main opposition Telugu Desam Party and other parties were deeply engrossed in finalising the party candidate lists.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah and Pradesh Congress President D Srinivas were closeted at a resort on the outskirts to oversee the list of candidates shortlisted by the party core committee for polls, even as TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu held talks with leaders of the Left parties and also with the majlis bachau tehreek(MBT).
All India Congress Committee(AICC) leader in charge of the party affairs in Andhra Pradesh M Veerappa Moily who was expected to visit the city today, could not make it. The party would finalise the list latest by tomorrow to enable the party candidates to file their nominations on November 6, party sources said.
Releasing the TDP list of 51 candidates, Mr Naidu told a press conference here that the party would go to the polls highlighting the ”allround development” witnessed in the state capital when the TDP was in power in the state.
The state had gone backward during the rule of the Congress which, he alleged, had weakened every civic institution in the city. After the aborted talks for an alliance, the Praja Rajyam Party shortlisted names for 100 wards and they would be released once approved by its President Chiranjeevi.
Meanwhile, the All India Majilis-E-Itihadul Muslimeen released a list of 34 candidates which included the former Mayor Mr Zulfiqar Ali who would contest from Hussaini Alam.
This is the first major election being held in the state after the tragic death of late Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in a helicopter crash last month. Whether the Chief Minister, Mr K Rosaiah, would bring victory to the Congress remains to be seen.
