Several workshops and godowns were turned into ashes after a major fire engulfed the Mallepally guild at Vijayanagar Colony crossroads on Sunday.
Fortunately, no person was killed or injured in the fire accident. However, the property loss has been enormous, according to Humayun Nagar police.
Short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire in a godown which consequently led to the explosion of gas cylinders kept in the godown. The fire soon spread to adjacent godowns and workshops. Several small shops, located on the boundary wall of guild, were also gutted in fire. As many as 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot while more than 20 water tankers were engaged for refilling. The fire personnel struggled for more than four hours to put off the fire.
The power supply to the entire area was disconnected to prevent further damage. All the roads leading towards the guild were also closed for general traffic. The fire accident has also led to heavy traffic jam on major roads like Bazar Ghat, Masab Tank, Mallepally and Vijaya Nagar Colony.
On information, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Nampally MLA Meraj Hussain, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and other senior police officials rushed to the spot and supervised the fire fighting operations. (INN)
