A major fire broke out at Begumpet Airport tonight in which two aircrafts were gutted while causing loss to the tune of crores of rupees. The fire was first was reported by the security staff of the airport and as many as 7 fire tenders from various fire stations in city were rushed to the spot.
The fire broke out in the aircraft maintenance shed in which two parked aircrafts were engulfed in the fire. The jet fuel present in the aircrafts caused blasts resulting in huge sounds. During the incident costly spare parts of the aircrafts were totally gutted.
The incident created a panic among the nearby residents of Begumpet.The police alerted the residents of the nearby apartments not to open the doors of the flats as the smoke gripped the area.
The ground handling staff and airport authority of India staff was seen running from pillar to post in order to minimize the loss. Till early morning the firemen were trying to extinguish the flames but they could not succeed easily as the fire was deadly.
Senior officials from the Air force and Hyderabad police also reached the airport and supervised the fire extinguishing operations. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Detective Department Mr.Zafar Jaweed who was also at the spot said that the exact cause of fire could not be made out.
