Major fire in Begum Bazar shop

Hyderabad, April 26: Property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted after fire broke out in a building at Begum Bazar Chatri on Sunday afternoon triggering panic among the local residents and shopkeepers. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.

Flames erupted from Laxminarayana puja material store on the first floor of two-storied building and spread to the ground floor where seven shops were located. Two fire tenders from Gowligida and Chandulal Baradari were rushed to the spot after receiving a call around 4.30 p.m.

Even as fire-fighters struggled to douse the blaze, smoke engulfed the building making it difficult to go inside. Inflammable material like incense sticks, camphor and other articles were stocked in the shop.

Fire-fighters had to rope in five more fire tenders to soak an adjoining building to protect it from fire as firecrackers were stocked in it. With the help of shopkeepers, boxes of firecrackers were shifted to a safer place.

Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot and put-off the flames within four hours, according to police.
