Mahindra Satyam tightens noose

Hyderabad, August 04: As part of its reorganisation drive, Mahindra Satyam, earlier known as Satyam Computer Services Ltd., is tightening the noose around senior employees. Sources said, nearly 1,000 senior leaders’ roles will become redundant with the organisational structure put in place by Tech Mahindra, the new owner of Satyam.

At least three key employees namely Nick Sharma (Senior Vice President, Infrastructure Management Services), Sriram Papani (head, Enterprise Architecture) and Ravi Bommakanti (Head, Delivery) have resigned from the company. Each of them have been with Satyam for more than six years. In fact, Ravi Bommakanti, was even tipped off as the potential candidate for the interim CEO’s position before Tech Mahindra’s acquisition.

“After the reorganisation, about 1,000 senior leaders in the I-band including general managers and senior project managers’ roles have become redundant,’’ a senior company official told Express. He added that the company is currently evaluating ways to integrate them into subsidiaries or introduce a suitable package like the Virtual Pool Programme (VPP), through which it sent 8,900 associates on a six-month sabbatical, to cut the excess flab.

Satyam categorises its employees under S (entry-level), B1&B2 (deputy general managers) and I1, I2 and I-Alpha (senior project managers and business unit heads). While the VPP programme was targeted at the Sband, officials said, reducing workforce in the I-band, will translate to significant cost savings.

“These are employees drawing huge salaries and reducing workforce in this band will certainly save costs significantly,’’ the source said adding that while some of the senior staff are leaving due to cultural differences, others may be compelled to quit with no role to perform.
