Mahatma in poster controversy now

Hyderabad, October 16: Controversies continue to dog the Telugu film ‘Mahatma’ directed by Krishna Vamsi.

After a writer alleged that his song was used by the film producers without his permission, Bajrang Dal activists on Wednesday staged a dharna protesting the poor portrayal of right-wing groups in the film.

In a fresh controversy, a case has been registered by the City police against the film’s producer and distributor for failing to print the certificate issued by the Censor Board on the posters. Film posters need to carry the CBFC certificate on the publicity material. ‘Mahatma’ was given a U/A certificate by the Censor Board.

According to the police, the vice-president of Watch Media, Hanumantha Rao, lodged a complaint with the Moghulpura police complaining that the film posters did not carry the mandatory Censor Board certificate on them.

“The film is being run at the Sudha theatre at Shalibanda which falls in our jurisdiction and based on a complaint by Hanumantha Rao, we registered a case against the film producer and the distributor,” Moghulpura police sub-inspector Raghavendra Rao said. Police registered cases against the film producer, C R Manohar, and the distributor, who is not yet known. “Going by the film posters, the film is distributed by Bhagavathi Pictures but we are yet to know whether they have the rights for the entire state,” the SI said.

Police seized a couple of posters from the theatre and a case under Section 7 of AP Cinematography Act was registered against the producer and distributor.

“It is not yet known who printed the publicity material. We have to ascertain whether it is the producer or the distributor,” Raghavendra Rao said.
