In Indian prisons, there are more Muslims imprisoned in the jails than their percentage of population. These figures came to limelight during the speeches made by the delegates of the third National Convention against Politics of Terror held in Hyderabad yesterday.
Former Union Minister, Mr. Mani Shankar Iyaer and Dr. Syed Mazher Hussain (COVA) presented these figures in the convention.
They told that there are 10% Muslims in Maharastra but there are 36% Muslims imprisoned in various jails of the state. During the deliberations of the convention, it was revealed that out of the Muslims youths arrested after any terrorist activity, 75% of them are those whom police has booked for the first time in any criminal case. Very serious charges are leveled against them. 25% of them can’t afford to engage a lawyer. It was also noticed that most o the accused that police targets are illiterates or the school dropouts. It was also brought to notice that police fixes the targets and in order to complete the target, it arrests innocent Muslim youths.
Ms. Manisha Sheety disclosed that the intelligence officers exploit some youths for fulfilling their objectives. If they disobey them, they are put behind the bars and they are declared as terrorists. It was also noticed that news reaches the intelligence agencies through the designated informers.
