Biometric system of attendance will also be extended to all government staff who render service in the rural areas, Patil said.

This kind of vigil will help improve the attendance of both students and teachers, Patil said while inaugurating a two-day seminar Gram Sabha 2010
‘Mera Gaon, Mera Desh’ (My village, my country) organised by Welingkar Institute of Management. He, however, did not give any time-frame for the introduction of the biometric system.

Maharashtra is also proposing a Village Plan and an Eco-village model having ecologically balanced rural state including a proper drainage system, he said.

Patil pointed out the union government initiated different programs of rural development and empowerment but a lot needs to be done including providing water and electricity to the rural masses on a sustainable basis.

Speaking on the occasion, Uday Salunkhe, Group director, Welingkar Institute of Management, said there is a greater need for managerial input in rural India.

Salunke said that the actors in the management process are the people inhabiting the rural areas, and no long term plan can be achieved without their willingness, collaboration and participation.
