Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, currently in Tel Aviv, held discussions with top Israeli leaders on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Smart Cities’ initiative.

The official twitter handle of the Consulate General of Israel in Mumbai shared the information via a series of tweets.

Prime Minister Modi had announced the ‘Smart Cities’ initiative shortly after taking office last year. The scheme proposes to convert 100 cities across the nation into ‘Smart Cities’ to help cope with the rapid rate of urbanisation.

The Prime Minister had earlier last year stated that cities should be identified as ‘hubs of economic activity’, adding that a focus on ‘waste to wealth’, that is, solid-waste management and waste-water treatment, would be an important part of the development of smart cities. (ANI)
