Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday expressed his condolences to the families of the students who lost their lives at Murud beach in Raigad.
In a series of tweets, Fadnavis said that14 students from Pune’s Inamdar College lost their lives by drowning off the beach in Raigad.
“Extremely saddened & shocked to know about the Murud incident where 14 students lost their lives. My deepest condolences to the families. Instructed the Collector to take care of all students. He informed that 14 bodies recovered, saved lives of 5 girls & are being hospitalised” he tweeted.
He also said that the Coast Guard has started the rescue operation to find one student who is still missing.
The incident took place around 5:00 p.m. when 116 students, along with eight teachers and three staff members from Inamdar College of Pune went for a picnic at Murud beach in Raigad district, around 150 kilometres south of Mumbai. (ANI)
