Mumbai: In what could a major boost for both Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state, the party pulled off victories in Jalgaon and Sangli municipal elections on Friday.
Sounding ecstatic after the win, Fadnavis told ANI, “This shows the faith people have on us. I am thankful to the people of Jalgaon and Sangli who had voted for the BJP. We will continue to work for the welfare of the people of Maharashtra.”
The Jalgaon defeat could inflict a massive blow to Shiv Sena as the party only managed to bag 13 wards while BJP swept the polls by winning 57 of 75 of them.
However, in Sangli, the alliance between Congress and National Congress Party (NCP) could not stop the BJP from winning the polls. While the BJP claimed 41 out of 78 wards, the Congress and NCP got 15 and 20 wards respectively. (ANI)
