The Bombay High Court on Friday quashed the decision of providing 16 percent reservation for Marathas in educational institutions and jobs in Maharashtra.
The Bombay High Court’s order comes on a petition challenging the measure, phrasing it as a “fraud” on the Constitution.
The bench bench headed by chief justice Mohit Shah stayed the orders to 5 percent reservation to Muslims in public service given by the previous Congress-NCP, it but allowed them quota in educational institutions.
The PIL however had only confronted the reservation for the Marathas. It urged the court to direct the state government to “recall” the decision.
The Congress-NCP government, four months prior to Assembly elections, had announced 5 percent for Muslims and 16 percent reservation for Marathas in jobs and educational institutions.
