Mumbai, September 10: Maharashtra Government has requested the Centre to ban clippings on a video sharing website, claiming they were responsible for inciting people during the recent violence in Miraj and other towns of western Maharashtra.
“DGP A N Roy has written to the Centre, asking it to ban the clippings on the ‘www.youtube.com’ site which incited people and led to spread of more violence,” Home Minister Jayant Patil told reporters here today.
The Centre has not responded so far to the request, but Roy would remind them on the issue, Patil said.
The Home Minister accused opposition Shiv Sena-BJP of inciting people and garnering ‘political mileage’, keeping an eye on the October 13 Assembly polls.
On the situation in Miraj, Patil said the curfew was released today for immersion of Ganesha idols and processions went off peacefully.
