Maha govt should take decision on reservations soon: NCP

Mumbai: The NCP today said the Maharashtra government should take a decision regarding reservations soon, saying that it should act on the matter before the situation “slips out of control” like in Gujarat.

“They (government) should take the decision (regarding reservations) before it is too late,” NCP spokesperson Nawab Mailk told reporters here.

“The parties that are ruling the state now had assured reservations for Maratha and Dhangar communities before the elections. Now, they should act on it before the situation slips out of control like in Gujarat,” he said.

“Farmland is too fragmented now. Along with that several other reasons have rendered farming a non-profitable profession. This has led people to demand more jobs. And to facilitate that they are demanding reservations in education and jobs,” Malik said.

“The Patels in Gujarat should get reservation without affecting the OBC quota. There have been several examples where reservations have exceeded 50 per cent,” he added. referring to the current agitation in the neighbouring state.

He also blamed the police for not handling the agitation in Gujarat properly.
