Madurai, August 15: The Madurai Railway division’s income from passenger and freight during April to July touched a record high of Rs.150 crore compared to Rs.134-crore during the corresponding period last year, Divisional Railway Manager Anil Singhal said here today.
Addressing the Independence day function after hoisting the National flag, he said Electrification of Madurai-Tiruchi line would be completed by March 2010.
The Madurai Junction would get Escalator facility and other passenger amenities were being provided at Rs 26-crore.
The facade of Madurai Junction was being beautified and extension of concourse was being undertaken.The division had added 21 unreserved ticketing-cum-passenger reservation system. “On board cleaning services in trains will be introduced shortly”, he said.
He also praised RPF personnel for rescuing 12 children, who had either lost their way or had left home on their own, and handing them over to their parents.
