Madrassa teacher hacked to death in Kerala

KASARGOD: Tension grips Kerala’s Kasaragod district after a 34-year-old Madrassa teacher hacked to death by unknown assailants.

The incident happened on Monday night at around 1.30am when the deceased identified as Riyaz was at his residence near mosque.

When the Khateeb Abdul Azeez, who reside in room adjacent to Riyaz heard loud cries coming from Riyazs room, rushed to his room but “came under heavy-stone pelting” from outside which forced him to shut the door.

He without delay entered the mosque through an inner door and alerted the local residents regarding the incident through the mosque loudspeaker.

When the locals rushed to Riyaz’a room, he was found dead in a pool of blood with his throat slit. The assailants, who were on bike had already fled the spot by then.

Riyaz, a native of Madikeri in Karnataka was working as a teacher at the Ijjattul Islam Madrassa for the last nine years.

Following the murder, the Indian Union Muslim League has called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh from 6am to 6 pm to protest the killing on Tuesday.

The motive behind the crime is not clear.

A special police team has been found to investigate the case and a man-hunt is launched to lookout for the accused.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
