Madina’s Grand Mosque infested with black crickets

MADINA: Thousands of black crickets swarms the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the mosque of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the city of Madina.

According to Saudi Gazette, the General Presidency for the Prophet’s Mosque Affairs said with the help of municipality, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, it is making continuous efforts to combat with the black crickets swarm that infested the grand mosque.

It was also reported that about 150 municipality employees were deployed at the Prophet’s Mosque. They were equipped with pesticides to spray the areas around the mosque and collect the dead crickets in special bags.

The municipality employees will also monitor the movement of these bugs on the roof of the mosque. The domes of the mosque have also closed so as to prevent these bugs from getting inside. Also the lighting around the mosque, which is responsible for attracting these
bugs has been reduced.

A number of men with special vacuum machines for the suction of these insects has been employed around the gates by the presidency of Madina.

They are also looking for any gaps inside the mosque’s walls, pillars and floors so as to cover them with silicon to prevent the crickets from hiding inside.

The agency will continue working to get rid off from these bugs and also ensure the comfort of pilgrims and worshippers.
