Mumbai, June 10: After months of being quite, Madhavan a.k.a Maddy is finally speaking up. The party which had begun after the thunderous success of 3 IDIOTS was spoiled to a little extent with TEEN PATTI turning out to be a failure at the box office. The film was critically panned and commercially too it didn’t do much. Though the actors, mainly Amitabh Bachchan and Madhavan, could still afford to keep their head high, courtesy their act, the others were not as fortunate.
One wonders though that with a working experience of over a decade behind him, didn’t Madhavan realize that the film was going nowhere?
Says Madhavan after a pause, “Let me dare say that I did realize something was going amiss when the film was being made. But then I was not as experienced as other people out there in the film. I mean there were people like Big B and Sir Ben. I was under the impression that they would be having a better idea.”
He understands though that it was during the post production that the film actually went further downhill.
“A film actually gets a life on the editing table”, he says, “You shoot a film and then it becomes too long. So then you have to pick some scenes that have to be cut. Also, what happens is that sometimes in isolation a scene looks really fabulous but in flow with the rest of the film, it doesn’t create similar impact. That was the case in TEEN PATTI as well where individually these scenes worked but during the editing process, things got a little messed up.”
He is now hopeful about months ahead with the shooting of TANU WEDS MANU coming to an end. “Yes, it has turned out quite well”, he brings on a smile; “Hopefully in the third quarter this year, we should see the film release.”
