Washington: Macedonia has officially selected Iscelitel (Secret Ingredient) as its entry for the ‘foreign language film’ category at the 91st Oscars.
Directed by Gjorce Stavreski, the story revolves around a series of dramatic events triggered by a therapeutic cannabis cake, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The film mixes drama and comedy perfectly and it shows an underpaid train mechanic giving his father a cake made of stolen marijuana to relieve and calm his cancer pain. However, he is soon cornered by criminals making it hard for him to escape as they are searching for their drugs and the nosy neighbours who want a recipe for the secret healing cake.
‘Secret Ingredient’ is Macedonia’s 15th entry in the ‘foreign language film’ category in the Oscar race since 1994.
Milcho Manchevski’s ‘Before the Rain’ was the first submission, and the only one to have earned an Academy Award nomination.
