Hyderabad, July 14: The final year students of Mass Communication and Journalism from the Maulana Azad National Urdu University on Tuesday pleaded before the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to take action against the Varsity’s former Head of the Department Ehtesham Ahmed Khan.
Talking to INN after filing the petition, one of the students, Mirza Ghani Baig revealed that the former Head of the Department and presently an Associate Professor at the University had told him and eight other students that they would fail in the examinations.
The eight students named by the former HoD did not manage to clear their exams, leading to them believing that Prof Ehtesham Ahmed Khan was behind their failure.
On asking why the former HoD could have damaged their careers, Mr Ghani revealed that Prof Ehtesham Ahmed Khan had received calls harassing him and he had suspected the students to be behind the episode.
Mr Ghani revealed that Prof Ehtesham Ahmed Khan had accosted the students about the harassment and inquired from them if they were behind the crank calls.
When the students claimed their innocence, Prof Ehtesham Ahmed Khan refused to believe them and said that he would make sure that they did not pass their examinations.
The students suspect that Prof Ehtesham Ahmed Khan misused the powers his position as the HoD bestowed on him and ensured that the students failed to clear their examinations.
Mr Ghani further said that, “I approached the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Controller of Examinations requesting to take note of the warning made by the Professor, but my protests and request were ignored and nothing concrete came out.”
The beleaguered student further revealed that he approached the new Head of the Department and filed a complaint about the incident. He says that the new HoD assured him that the matter would be looked into, but nothing was done.
When INN contacted the new Head of the Department, he washed his hands off the issue saying that he was powerless since the issue now rested with his superiors.
