Hyderabad, May 19: Former State Minister Mr. Mohammad Ali Shabbir is in the forefront of the state Congress presidential race even though the other leaders are also presenting their claim.
After having made administrative changes across the country, Congress president Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has now diverted her attention towards Andhra Pradesh as the state has played a major role in formation of UPA government at the centre for two times.
The present state Congress president, Mr. D Srinivas has completed his tenure and he can be removed from the post any moment.
Party high command has appointed Union Health Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad as the new incharge general secretary of the state to control the situation in Andhra Pradesh.
Besides former Minority Welfare minister Mr. Mohammad Ali Shabbir from Telangana region, former Minister Mr. S Chandrashekhar and Malluravi are also in the race.
It should be noted that Muslims are the backbone for Congress in the state hence high command is taking a serious consideration to make a Muslim State Congress president this time to draw Muslims near the Congress.
