Melbourne : Nathan Lyon claimed a two-wicket haul to help Australia reduce New Zealand to 178-4 at stumps on day three of the first Test at Basin Reserve in Wellington on Sunday.
New Zealand are still trailing by 201 runs against Australia with Henry Nicholls unbeaten at 31 and Corey Anderson set to join him on Monday morning, News.com.au reported.
Openers Tom Latham and Martin Guptill provided an initial thrust to the Kiwis by sharing an opening-stand of 85 runs.
Latham and Guptill scored significant 63 and 45 respectively before being dismissed at the hands of Lyon.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh dismissed skipper Brendon McCullum for mere 10 runs while Kane Williamson (22) was caught behind off a cracking delivery from Josh Hazlewood.
Earlier, resuming at yesterday’s score of 463-6, Australia were bundled out for 562 in their first innings, thanks to Adam Voges (239) and Usman Khawaja (140).(ANI)
