Lucknow: Lucknow University has issued a notice in which it has banned the celebration of Valentine’s Day on February 14. The notice stated that influenced by the western culture, young boys and girls of the university also celebrate 14th February as Valentine’s Day. The notice stated that there is a holiday on February 14 on account of Mahashivratri. There will be no regular class or practical class nor cultural programme hence students have been directed not to come to college. The notice also appealed the parents and guardians of the students, not to send their children to the university. University warned strict action against the violators.
However, the directive by the university administration has sparked debate. University students and political parties are strongly reacting to this. While the opposition parties term it as narrow-mindedness of BJP and RSS, students affected by the decision describe it as bigotry.
