Jabalpur, July 17: Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday served a notice on senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj following a petition challenging her election from Vidisha parliamentary constituency in the state.
Justice K K Lahoti served the notice, returnable within six weeks.
In his petition, Congress leader Rajkumar Patel contended that although he furnished his A form in his nomination papers within the stipulated time, his candidature was rejected to help Swaraj win the elections.
Patel said he had reached the district returning officer’s office in time along with the photocopy of A Form and original B Form.
After being told to produce the original A Form along with my papers, I did the same before 3 pm – on the last date of filing of nomination papers, he said.
The Congress leader demanded that Swaraj’s election be termed null and void as his papers were intentionally turned down to help her.
Patel’s counsel Manoj Sharma told reporters that the Court had served notice on Swaraj, after his client challenged her elections from Vidisha.
Swaraj won the last Lok Sabha election by a record margin of over three lakh votes from Vidisha, after Patel’s nomination papers were turned down and no Congress candidate was fielded against her.
Recently, the Congress High Command expelled Patel following rejection of his nomination papers.
