Hyderabad, August 02: With the ignominious defeat of the PCC president, Mr D Srinivas, and floating demand for his resignation, some junior legislators, who are strong supporters of Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, were reportedly planning to come out with a new demand that the Kadapa MP and son of late YSR be appointed the PCC Chief.
The results of by-elections in 12 Assembly segments in the Telangana region seem to cause dramatic changes in the internal politics of the State Congress.
According to grapevine, the junior legislators have faxed a letter to the party high command in this regard. They also expressed fears that the open statements of a suspended leader and supporter of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, may create a negative impression on Mr Jagan in the party high command.
The Congress MLA, Ms Konda Surekha, and the MP, Mr Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, and some others were backing the candidature of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy for the PCC post. The supporters of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy were already lobbying at the Delhi level in this regard, it is learnt.
As the Congress faced a bitter experience in the Telangana region, particularly in the just-concluded by-elections over separate Telangana issue, the party leadership seems to be cautious on Mr Jagan’s matter. If the high command takes any action against Mr Jagan, it may definitely cause damage to the ruling party in the Coastal districts, particularly Kadapa and Godavari districts. Under the circumstances, it is time that the high command takes clever decisions, instead of hasty actions.
The name of the Rajya Sabha member, Mr V Hanumantha Rao, was also doing rounds in the Congress circles for the PCC chief’s post. But, the chances of Mr Hanumantha Rao becoming State Congress president are bleak as only a section of party workers accept him.
There were also chances that Mr Srinivas may be allowed to continue as the PCC Chief.
