Low pressure trough rekindles hope

Hyderabad, August 16: The hopes of farmers of Andhra Pradesh, reeling under 57 per cent deficit in rainfall, were rekindled with the south west monsoon becoming vigorous under the influence of a trough of low pressure extending from Orissa to South Tamil Nadu coast.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rain would occur in of Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool of Rayalaseema and Guntur, Krishna, Nellore and Prakasam districts of the coastal regions during next 48 hours, according to Indian Meteorological Department(IMD).

KALPANA 1 Cloud Imagery at 1430 hrs showed convective clouds over parts of south Andhra Pradesh and south Bay of Bengal, the IMD said. Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema in the next 48 hours. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places over Telangana during the period.

The south west monsoon was very vigorous over coastal Andhra Pradesh and vigorous over Rayalaseema in the last 24 hours. Isolated rain occurred over Telangana region also, the weather office here said. Repalle and Arogyavaram recorded very heavy rainfall of 20 cm and 14 cm, respectively. Bapatla and Avanigadda had 11 cm each, Kuppam 10 cm, Tirupati airport and Srikalahasti registered 9 cm each, Kalakada, Venkatagiri Kota and Tenali had 8cm each and Lakkireddipalli, Satyavedu and Sullurpet 7 cm each.

The other places where rainfall was significant included Guntur, Gajapathinagaram , Palamaner and Punganur and Palasa 6 each, Cuddapah, Nellore, Ongole, Kandukur, Patapatnam , Piduguralla Rayachoty, Tada and Thambalapalle 5 each cm.
