Hyderabad, October 23: Two degree students from Hanamkonda committed suicide by jumping into a well in the historic Golconda Fort here on Thursday evening.
K Srivani, 20, and N Bhavani, 20, were pursuing B Com (Computers) final year at Kakatiya Mahila Degree College in Hanamkonda. At about 3 pm, a tourist noticed the two girls jumping into Bala Hisar well, located atop the Golconda Fort, next to the staircase on the way to the jail where Ramdas was incarcerated.
The shocked tourist rushed to inform the security guards standing near the entrance of the fort, but by then it was too late. The two girls drowned in the well, which was full of water due to the recent rains.
Police found their bags next to the well. In one of them, police found a notebook in which the girls had written a joint suicide note in Telugu.
According to Asifnagar ACP M Venkateswara Rao, the note said: “No one is responsible for our death.” The girls specifically mentioned the names of two youths—Srikanth and Mahesh in the note saying ‘they were not responsible for their death.’ Srikanth is Srivani’s brother and Mahesh is his friend. Police want to talk to the families of the girls before deciding on any further course of action. A train ticket, fort entry tickets, empty soft drink bottles and college ID cards of the students were also found in the bags.
As per the details on the train ticket, they had boarded a Secunderabad-bound train in Kazipet at around 4 pm on Wednesday.
The girls came to the Golconda Fort at 11.30 am on Thursday. Police are trying to figure out where they had stayed overnight. “We are assuming that they may have stayed at the Secunderabad railway station,’’ Golconda SI R Ravinder Reddy said.
Police informed Srivani’s father Rajender and Bhavani’s father Sanjeeva Raju, who is a head constable at the Subedari police station in Hanamkonda, about the incident. The bodies were sent to Osmania Hospital.
