Love Jihad or Lie Jihad: Bajrang Dal leader arrested for abducting woman

Mangaluru: A Bajrang Dal activist was arrested in connection with the abduction of a Kerala woman, who had allegedly eloped with a man from another community.

The arrested is identified as a known Bajrang Dal activist Sunil Kumar, a resident of Pumpwell in Mangaluru.

According to media reports, it is said that 23-year-old Reshma VK, who was studying in a private college in Mangaluru, fell in love with Mohammed Iqbal Choudary of Mankhurd in Mumbai.

Later on, despite opposition from her family members, Reshma walk down the aisle with Iqbal and settled in Mumbai.

Recently, Reshma got abducted from a mall in Mumbai and was forcefully brought back to her native place. She was house arrested by .

Meanwhile, Iqbal filed a habeas corpus petition in the Mumbai court seeking to trace Reshma alleging that the girl was kidnapped.

Based on Iqbal’s complaint registered by Iqbal, Mumbai police on Thursday arrested Sunil on charges of abduction.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal claimed it as ‘Love Jihad’ and had even submitted a memorandum to the Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman urging her to the arrest of Iqbal on Love Jihad charges.

In a Facebook post, the Bajrang Dal allegedly accused him of indulging in love jihad threatened to chop off Iqbal’s head for engaging in ‘love Jihad’.
